The purchase of the 19-acre property comes nearly three years after the Aug. 8, 2023 wildfire destroyed the offices, coffee mill and other buildings owned by Pioneer Mill Company, a subsidiary of Kaanapali Land.

Waiving bus fares for Maui County employees would have a “minimal impact” on revenue received from the Maui Bus ridership, Department of Transportation Director Marc Takamori told council members Tuesday.

The Pioneer Mill Company/Lahaina Ice Company Bookkeeper’s House in Lahaina, more recently dubbed the “Miracle House” after the August 2023 wildfires on Maui, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Lahainaluna Road will officially reopen for unrestricted public access at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, according to an announcement from the County of Maui.

With residential debris removal 100% complete, opening of residential areas off Lahainaluna Road is set for Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 a.m. This is Phase 4 of the Maui Emergency Management Agency zone reopening plan and marks one of the final large residential zones to be reopened.

The Hawai’i Supreme Court on Monday handed a victory to Keʻeaumoku Kapu and his family regarding his claims to a kuleana parcel that his house sits on in Kauaʻula Valley, but the case is not over as it returns to the Circuit Court on Maui.  

The final community use planning meeting to discuss future possible uses of the Pioneer Mill office building will be held via zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10. 

Lahaina Restoration Foundation is inviting the public to participate in community planning sessions to determine uses for the Pioneer Mill Company Office building on Lahainaluna Road.

Lahaina Restoration Foundation announced the return of of their candle lit tours of the Baldwin Home Museum beginning Friday, Sept. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. The home tour will return alongside a new exhibit featuring historic photographs of sports teams from the Pioneer Mill era.

Guests are invited to experience the lives of the people living and working during the height of the pineapple and sugar plantation industry on Maui.
