The 4th Annual Carmen Hulu Lindsey Leo Ha‘iha‘i Falsetto Contest took place on Friday evening at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, honoring the art of leo ha‘iha‘i (Hawaiian falsetto) and celebrating Hawai‘i’s musical traditions. The event crowned its fourth Falsetto Champion, Kellysa-Michiko Namakaokalani Pau‘ole of Waikapū, Maui.

Grammy nominee and multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Kumu Hula Kamaka Kukona will celebrate the release of his highly anticipated senior musical project, “KAHENEWAI’OLU,” with a special performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.

Day 2 of the Lahaina Festival takes place today (Nov. 25) with a pop-up mākeke featuring dozens of vendors from 3 to 9 p.m.; and entertainment tonight with Kulāiwi at 6 p.m., and Kalani Pe‘a featuring Hālau Ke‘alakahinano o Puna at 7 p.m.  The event is presented by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and the Hawai‘i Community Foundation at the Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows.  The celebration of music, culture, and community supports Maui’s resilient spirit and coincides with the Maui Invitational college basketball tournament.

Hundreds gathered at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa for the 2024 Piʻo Summit: Hulihia: Fire and Rain, a free series of forums focused on leveraging ancestral ʻike (knowledge) to support long-term recovery efforts for communities affected by the Lahaina wildfires and the 2018 Kauaʻi floods.

The 3rd Annual Carmen Hulu Lindsey Leo Ha‘iha‘i Falsetto Contest took center stage on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, celebrating the unique Hawaiian tradition of leo ha‘iha‘i and crowned its third Falsetto Champion Leimana Kaleinamanu Purdy of Kula, Maui.

Maui musicians won multiple awards and were showcased throughout the event, which took time to recognize the ongoing recovery taking place following the August 2023 wildfires.

The first phase of the “Maui Nui Hall of Fame” was unveiled Sunday evening at Kahului Airport, featuring 40 inaugural inductees from Maui County who have made significant contributions in music, film, and sports in Hawai‘i and beyond. The event drew more than 100 Hawaiʻi icons, government leaders, residents and well-wishers who celebrated the accomplishments, talents and impressive careers of honorees who have left a lasting impact in their respective fields.

Several fundraising events for Maui wildfire victims and survivors will take place in September on Maui, Oʻahu and the mainland.

Several entertainment fundraisers on Maui, Oʻahu, California and Washington are scheduled this weekend and into September to benefit Maui wildfire victims, including a Maui Jazz and Blues Festival and country western concert, both in Kula.

The story of Hawaiian activist George Helm unfolds in a screening of the film “Hawaiian Soul” at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Aug. 18, along with music from his niece and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano winner Raiatea Helm.

The inaugural Kani Kūola: UH System Music Festival takes place Saturday, April 9, featuring both in-person and online events from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nā Hōkū Hano Hano Award winners and Grammy nominated singers/songwriters, Amy Hanaiali’i and Raiatea Helm, will headline Hale Makua Health Services’ annual fundraiser, Kokua for Kupuna.

Nāpua Greig, Amy Hānaialiʻi and Raiatea Helm will perform in a joint Three Maui Divas concert on Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Castle Theater.

Grammy Winning Maui artist Kalani Pea is up for Male Vocalist of the Year, Most Promising Artists of the Year & Album of the Year for his debut release E Walea.

The Shops at Wailea will present Raiatea Helm, one of Hawai‘i’s premier female vocalists, at Wailea Le‘a on Wednesday, July 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the fountain courtyard.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s annual Lei Day tradition continues with a Hawaiian music concert featuring Robert Cazimero and Raiatea Helm in the Castle Theater on May 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

In past years, native Hawaiian artists Raiatea Helm, Kapulani Landgraf, Christen Marquez, Christopher K. Morgan and Cyril Pahinui were honored with this award.

Newly elected council members Don Guzman of Kahului, and Stacy Helm-Crivello of Molokai were among the nine Maui Council members that took the oath office for the 2013-2015 term during a ceremony in the council chambers on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Maui Council Inauguration, that is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in the Council Chamber.
