Maui live fire training scheduled Nov. 10, 12, 18 and 19
The Maui Fire Department will conduct wildland live fire training on Nov. 10, 12, 18 and 19, as part of our 42nd Recruit Class. This training will be conducted in Waikapū, across from the Maui Tropical Plantation.
Wildland firefighters complete ignition training
Last week, experts from the US Forest Service wrapped up ignition training by conducting a field exercise on former agriculture lands in south Kaua‘i. Hundreds of acres here are covered in invasive grasses, the most common fuel for wildfire in Hawai‘i. Some 25% of the land across the state is covered by these grasses, adding to the overall potential for devastating wildfires.

The Maui Fire Department will conduct a single day live fire wildland training exercise on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The training will take place on a parcel of Mahi Pono land just south of Haleakalā Highway and west of Keahua Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This is an extension of the training conducted last month.
Maui Wildland Firefighting Training: April 17-24
The Launiupoko training area is on 20 acres N of Punakea Loop. Training is also planned on 20 acres about 3 miles east of the Puʻunēnē sugar mill in Kahului.
Maui Wildland Firefighting Refresher Training in April
The Maui Fire Department conducts wildland firefighting refresher training in the Launiupoko and Central Maui areas on April 17-19 and 22-24.
