The state is finalizing preparations for the July 8 launch of the State of Hawai‘i’s vaccination exemption program for domestic, Hawai‘i-bound travelers vaccinated in the United States or US Territories.

The confirmed cases included: 31 on O‘ahu (+4 probable); seven on Kaua‘i; three on Hawai‘i Island (-1 probable); one on Maui (-1 probable); and five in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state.

State officials say the incentives campaign and promotions contributed to a 30% increase in vaccinations over what was predicted. To date, 240,000 people have registered for the chance to win prizes at HIGotVaccinated.com.

The state Department of Health reports that there were 51 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Sunday.

The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is expected to double every two weeks, and will likely become the dominant variant in the islands in about a month or so, according to Hawai‘i Department of Health State Laboratories Division Administrator Dr. Edward Desmond.

#HIGotVaccinated Week Two Winners Include One Maui and Four O‘ahu Residents

To date, nine cases of the Delta variant have been detected on O‘ahu, two on Maui, one on Kaua‘i and one on Hawai‘i island.

Hawaiʻi is expected to reach a 60% fully vaccinated rate by July 8, which will result in relaxed rules relating to travel and social gatherings.

To date there have been three cases of the Delta variant associated with travel from the continental United States. Two of those cases are on O‘ahu and one is on Hawai‘i Island. In addition, the State Laboratories Division has identified the Delta variant in a specimen from an O‘ahu resident with no history of travel. The Department of Health is investigating to determine the extent of household and community transmission.
