There is a temporary road closure in Haleakalā National Park due to winter weather conditions. The Haleakalā Highway temporary closure begins at Kalahaku Overlook (9,324 feet) and extends up to the summit of Haleakalā.

Snow Graces Haleakalā Summit on Maui

Snow and freezing rain fell over Haleakala on Maui as the summit was added to a winter storm warning overnight.  The warning remains in effect until noon today with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.  

Freezing Rain, Snow Forecast Overnight at Maui’s Haleakalā Summit

A mix of rain, snow and freezing rain are expected at the Summit of Haleakalā overnight. The NWS issued a Winter Weather Warning overnight advising against travel to the location due to hazardous conditions. Maui last saw snow atop Haleakalā during a winter storm last year that forced the closure of the summit for at least six days.

Maui Flood Advisory Until 3:15 a.m.

Maui is under a Flood Advisory until 3:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020. The National Weather Service reports that at 12:14 a.m., radar showed heavy rain persisting over East Maui near Kauaō and Hāna. Area residents reported flash flooding over the road at Mile 31 of the Hāna Highway at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Cold Front Moves Down Islands, Snow in Forecast for Big Island Summits

A cold front over the central islands will continue to move down the island chain through tonight, according to the latest Area Synopsis issued by the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
