Maui police arrested eight individuals for driving under the influence of an intoxicant and towed a total of five vehicles during a weekend enforcement effort in which police utilized Maui’s new DUI Tow law.

This action is taken to honor Honolulu Police Department officers Tiffany Enriquez and Kaulike Kalama who were shot and killed in the line of duty on Jan. 19.

The fallen officers have since been identified as Tiffany Enriquez, a seven-year veteran of the department; and Kaulike Kalama, a nine-year veteran of the force.  

A Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace March takes place this morning in Wailuku. The event is hosted by the African Americans on Maui Association and begins with opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m.  at the Stone of Hope Monument fronting the Kalana O Maui building.  The march begins at 9 a.m.  

The Maui Police Department will begin towing the vehicles of drivers arrested for driving under the influence beginning this weekend, according to Maui Police.

Maui Mayor Michael Victorino proclaimed today, Jan. 17, 2020, “Kurt Suzuki Day” throughout the County of Maui.  The proclamation was issued during a morning press conference at the Kalana O Maui building in Wailuku.

All lanes and all directions of Hāna Highway will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. between Tuesday evening, Jan. 28 and Friday morning, Jan. 31.
