On this beautiful Maui weekend of windy days and perfectly sublime blue skies, outdoor activities are calling. How does some Reggae, free movies, Obon dancing, and a keiki pageant sound?

Turn those coulda, woulda, shouldas, into action and break out your closet thespian on July 30 and 31, for ProArts Playhouse in Kihei’s, open casting call.

The film tells the story of Eddie’s quest to find the sources of Hawaiian musical traditions in order to preserve and pass along the knowledge to future generations.

Sweet melodies, catchy pop phrasing and warm and mellow vocals characterize Jim Brickman’s musical style. On August 7, Brickman will perform hits, his favorites, and new material, at the Castle Theatre at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center at 3:00 p.m.

This weekend feels short, but fit the fun in, with dinner and music, a summer bash at Piilani Shopping Center, and some culture at I’ao Theatre and the Steppingstone Playhouse at Queen Ka’ahumanu Mall.

The contestant submission deadline for the Hawaiian music competition ‘Ka Himeni Ana’ has been extended to Friday, July 29th.

Smart mouthed and sassy Wanda Sykes visits Maui in September. The Maui show takes place on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 8 p.m. in the Castle Theater at the MACC.

Lucky you live Lana’i. Na Hoku Hanohano Awards winners will play the Manele Bay Four Seasons, and Lodge at Koele at the 1st Annual Ukulele Festival with hula dancers, other special guest performances, and dinner service.

On July 16, as the Maui Arts and Cultural Center presents the first annual, Na Hoku Hou awards winners concert.

This weekend is full of music as Obon season hits Pa’ia, and “Chicago,” the musical begins showing at I’ao Theatre. Also, fundraising for the keikis couldn’t be more fun, with a Keiki Jam Fest at Ke’anae.

The album will be available for purchase on July 12, 2011, with a CD release party planned on Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, 2011 at Stella Blues Cafe in Kihei.

The Maui Historical Society offers a summer lauhala weaving class at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.
