Urgent storm repair work to impact traffic on Honoapi‘ilani Hwy. in Waikapū today

To safely make urgent repairs to a pole impacted by the storm, Hawaiian Electric crews will require a road closure on Honoapi‘ilani Highway between mile markers 2 and 3 between Waikō Road and Kamehameha Golf Course Road in Waikapū today, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motorists will be detoured to Kūihelani Hwy. and Waikō Road. No service interruptions are expected.

Update: Hula Girl catamaran grounding is one of three vessels run aground in Maui County

The charter sailing vessel Hula Girl’s grounding at Honolua Bay in West Maui is one of three vessels that have run ashore in Maui County as the result of recent stormy weather, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Kula water service outage due to heavy rains

Heavy rains have caused a main line break in Hāpapa Gulch in Kula. Due to the raging waters, DWS crews are currently unable to assess the extent of the damage.

The data indicates that between 2021 and 2024, the price for a dozen locally produced eggs rose by 28.4% from $6.91 to $8.87 while the price of imported mainland eggs increased by 51.8% from $5.50 to $8.35. The increase in the price of mainland eggs can be mainly attributed to the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) which has impacted egg production across the continental US.
