Maui severe weather road, air, harbor, facility impacts
As of midday today, all Maui County playing fields and stadiums, including the Waiehu Golf Course, are closed due to storm-related impacts, including high winds and flooding. Office of Recovery-West Maui at Lahaina Gateway was closed as of noon today. County of Maui Recycling Centers in Makawao, Kīhei, and Haʻikū are closed until further notice due to weather. All County of Maui offices were closed as of noon today, and officials are assessing whether to reopen Friday.
Maui power outage updates: thousands without power in various parts of the island
Thousands of customers remain without power in Maui County including parts of Kula, Puʻukoliʻi, Makawao, Kūʻau to Hāna, and Haʻikū. Hawaiian Electric Company reports that crews are responding to multiple storm-related outages. About 6,500 customers out of about 72,000 are without power in Maui County, the majority in parts of Upcountry and North Shore areas on Maui due to fallen trees and branches on lines.

Senate bill would transfer Māla Wharf and Kīhei Boat Ramp to Maui County
Dissatisfied by state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ management of small boating facilities, West and South Maui Sen. Angus McKelvey has drafted a bill to transfer maintenance and operations of Māla wharf in Lahaina and the Kīhei boat ramp to Maui County. Under the bill, the County could set permit fees to generate revenue for the facilities’ upkeep.
