DOH Releases New Data on Vaccine Efficacy and COVID-19 Breakthrough Data

Hawaiʻi data on deaths that occurred from Jan. 1, 2021 through Sept. 30, 2021 found that: Fully vaccinated people age 0-59 were 34 times less likely to die of COVID-19 than unvaccinated individuals.

There were 138 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Friday. The latest data represents a total of 1,428 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September, dropping to 6.8 per 100,000 today.

Road Closure: Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Telephone Pole on Kaupakalua Rd.

Kaupakalua Road is closed between East Kuiaha and Awalau Road due to a motor vehicle accident involving a telephone pole.  Maui police say the road will remain closed until approximately 10 a.m. while Hawaiian Tel personnel conduct repairs on scene.

Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Lawmaker John Carroll

Carroll represented Waikīkī, Moiliili and McCully while serving in the state House from 1971-1979. He represented Nuʻuanu to Diamond Head during his one term in the state Senate from 1979-1981. Carroll was also chairman of the Hawaiʻi Republican Party from 1981 to 1983.
