DXD Capital to open 89,200-square-foot storage facility in Kahului, Maui in 2027

DXD Capital has executed a long-term ground lease for the development of a new Class A self-storage facility in Kahului, Maui. The announcement follows DXD Capital’s ongoing development of a new Class A storage facility in Kīhei, at the Maui Research & Technology Park.

Oao Sushi opens at Puʻunēnē Shopping Center

Oao Sushi Go celebrated its grand opening on Dec. 8 at the Puʻunēnē Shopping Center in Kahului, Maui. Locally owned and operated by Chef Bernardo Oao Jr., Oao Sushi Go’s story began as a humble food truck serving innovative sushi dishes that quickly garnered a loyal following. The food truck’s success led to opening the first brick-and-mortar location in Wailea. With this second location, Chef Oao brings his vision and flavors of Oao Sushi Go to Central Maui.

Environmental Court orders reduction in water take from East Maui streams

The state’s Environmental Court on Friday reduced the amount of water that can be taken from East Maui streams under revocable permits held by Alexander and Baldwin and East Maui Irrigation. 

State seeks removal of feral cat feeding stations because of negative impacts on nēnē

The DLNR has directed the removal of cat-feeding stations located at a Hawai’i Island shopping center, following complaints that the endangered Hawai‘i state bird, the nēnē (Hawaiian goose), are being negatively impacted by the consumption of cat food and close contact with feral cats.

Final EIS for Proposed A&B Water Lease Withdrawn Citing “Typographical Errors”

The reason provided for the withdrawal was that certain production-related (printing) errors and typographical errors occurred during finalization of the FEIS document. Upon completion of the appropriate revisions, the corrected FEIS will be refiled.

Court Cuts A&B’s Watertake from East Maui While Contested Case Hearing is Underway

The Environmental Court has temporarily limited the amount of water that Alexander & Baldwin and East Maui Irrigation can take from East Maui to an average of about 25 million gallons of water per day, according to stream advocates. The court authorized the reduced diversion while a contested case hearing is conducted.
