Hale O Piʻikea III affordable housing on Maui is backed by $15.4M in financing

Hunt Capital Partners announced work on the final phase of the Hale O Pi‘ikea affordable housing development in South Maui. Located in Kīhei, Hale O Pi‘ikea III will introduce a mix of one-, two-, and three- bedroom housing options for low-income families earning up to 30%, 40%, and 60% of the Area Median Income. Phase III adds 35 affordable rental homes and one exempt manager’s unit to its 187 units that are already under construction, offering a total of 223 affordable homes for families and seniors who make a range of incomes. 

Draft environmental assessment details Waiʻale Road extension project

A draft environmental assessment has been completed for an 1.6-mile, southerly extension of Waiʻale Road that would, literally, pave the way for the Waikapū Country Town development. The new 80-foot-wide road would provide access to 1,433 homes, including 500 affordable units, as part of the master-planned Waikapū Country Town development, according to the draft document.

Lahaina Community Land Trust secures first piece of land to steward in Lahaina hands

The Lahaina Community Land Trust (LCLT) has secured its first parcel of community-owned land, that will be held in Lahaina hands forever, for the benefit of the local community for generations to come. The property at 1651 Lokia Street was secured by the LCLT in partnership with The Conservation Fund, a national land conservation organization. Once construction is complete, a homeowner will be chosen through a lottery system currently being developed by LCLT and its advisory board of Maui Komohana community leaders.
