In the wake of the recent typhoon that devastated communities across the Philippines, a Maui based Filipino owned restaurant is stepping up to help. Joey’s Kitchen Kahului at Balai Pata has announced a community-wide food and clothing drive to support relief efforts for families who have lost their homes, belongings and access to basic necessities.

The Maui Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners for the 2025 Mayor’s Small Business Awards. Among the winners was Dr. Cory Lehano, Owner of Mauliola Pharmacy, who was selected as the Young Small Business Person of the Year.

These businesses continue to shine through their outstanding service, innovation, team building, job creation, and commitment to the community. This award honors those who truly go above and beyond, exemplifying the Aloha Spirit and the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of Maui.

The next Wailuku First Friday town party is set for Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., on Market Street. In celebration of community generosity, several Wailuku town merchants and event vendors have announced that proceeds from their sales will be donated to local organizations.

The Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau hosts its second Canoe Crop Corner, a celebration of Maui’s rich agricultural heritage at Wailuku First Friday on Nov. 1. A cultural advisor and chef will continue this showcase the flavors of Hawai’i’s ancient canoe crop, kalo—one of the plants brought to the islands by early Polynesian voyagers.

Balai Pata, a Filipino restaurant by Maui Chef Joey Macadangdang celebrates its one year anniversary. Located just minutes from the airport in Central Maui, the restaurant pays tribute to the humble beginnings that most Filipino immigrant families experience.

More than 50 restaurants on O‘ahu, Maui and the Island of Hawai‘i will participate in the two-week campaign to dine local during the typically slower post-Labor Day season. In the coming months, all of the participating restaurants will be represented by chef talent during the 14th Annual Hawai‘i Food & Wine Festival events from Oct. 18-Nov. 10, where they’ll be joined by hundreds of chefs, winemakers, mixologists and beverage professionals from around the world. 

The Holy Rosary Church has announced an inaugural golf tournament set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 21 at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course in Kahului. The special event doubles as a friendly competition and vital fundraiser to support the ongoing restoration and preservation of one of Maui’s most cherished historic landmarks.
