#Committee on the Status of Women

During a recent ceremony, Maui County Committee on the Status of Women announced recipients of the 2025 Women of Excellence Awards – a biennial celebration recognizing wāhine whose leadership and service uplift Maui Nui.

Nominations are open for the 2025 Women of Excellence Awards, according to the Maui County Committee on the Status of Women. The annual recognition celebrates outstanding women across Maui County who uplift, inspire and strengthen their communities.

The County of Maui Committee on the Status of Women will hold community roundtables on Friday, July 11, 2025, to gather public input on issues affecting women’s health in the county.

The Maui County Committee on the Status of Women is presenting a womenʻs health conference, “Mana Moving Forward: Birth to Re-birth,” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center theaters.

The 2022 Women of Excellence, “Maui’s Mana Wahine” recipients are: Makena Sunset Kawaialoha Guzman, Valerie Janikowski, Adrianne Heely, Shandell Lehua Kaopio, Gina Gillstrom, P. Denise La Costa, and Luz Medina,M.D. Posthumous awards were issued to: Linda Higgins, Phyllis McOmber, Sarai Stricklin, and Terry Jones.

As Women’s History Month approaches, the County of Maui Committee on the Status of Women is once again accepting nominations for its bi-annual “Women of Excellence Awards.”

The Committee on the Status of Women is accepting nominations for the bi-annual awards as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, securing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote.  

Nominations are being sought for women who have succeeded against great odds, and whose diversity of experience demonstrates both the challenges and the opportunities they have faced.

This year’s award theme was, “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment,” and honored the extraordinary and often unrecognized determination and tenacity of women.

In an effort to gauge the status of women in Maui County and better advocate for their rights, the Committee on the Status of Women will conduct a survey at an informational booth at the mall. The table will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Queen

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Committee on the Status of Women has launched a survey to gauge the status of women in Maui County.

The County of Maui Mayor’s Office today announced the awarding of scholarships to four high school students to attend the Committee on the Status of Women’s 8th Annual International Women’s Leadership Conference (IWLC) in Honolulu next month.
