The Hawaiʻi House of Representatives has approved all seven bills in the House Majority Package on third reading ahead of the first crossover deadline on Thursday. The bills move on to the Senate for further consideration. 

As of Oct. 15, 2024, there are nearly 370 vacant corrections officer positions.

Gov. Josh Green, M.D., recognized winners of the Governor’s Awards on Monday. The recognition event was designed to honor state executive branch employees, managers and work teams who exemplify the highest caliber of public service and dedication in serving the people of Hawai‘i. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation welcomed a new class of 18 adult corrections officers during a graduation ceremony on Friday. The new corrections officers completed training and will begin their careers in facilities across the state, including three at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku.

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) is kicking off a new multi-pronged recruitment campaign for adult corrections officers (ACO) beginning Monday, June 10, 2024.

The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation welcomed a new class of adult corrections officers at a graduation ceremony at the Mission Memorial Auditorium on May 10, 2024. Its 13 graduates from Basic Corrections Recruit Class 24-02 completed training and will begin their careers as corrections officers in facilities across the state.

On Tuesday night, State legislators approved a final version of the State’s Supplemental Budget. This measure includes operating, capital improvement projects (CIP), and grants-in-aid monies for fiscal year 2024-2025 (FY25).

The newly redesigned Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation graduated its first recruit class this year, marking the occasion during a ceremony recently at Mission Memorial Auditorium in Honolulu.

The change offers a new beginning for corrections in Hawaiʻi, as the newly formed Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation focuses its full attention, resources, and energy on rehabilitation and restoration to support those in the department’s custody and care.

This was the final BCRC graduating class under the Department of Public Safety. The department will soon split into two departments — Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Department of Law Enforcement — effective. Jan. 1, 2024.

Up until her appointment as Deputy Director for Corrections, Muñoz has served as the domestic violence unit probation supervisor for the Hawaiʻi State Judiciary Adult Client Services Branch in the Third Circuit, for the East Hawaiʻi section of Hawaiʻi Island.
