Lahaina Restoration Foundation announces new leadership

The Lahaina Restoration Foundation announced its new leadership team, introduced at the LRF Annual Meeting held recently at the Lahainaluna High School Cafeteria. Ekolu Lindsey has been named President of LRF, bringing his deep roots in Hawaiian cultural and environmental stewardship to guide the organization’s mission of preserving Lahaina’s historic and cultural resources.

This first-of-its-kind interactive augmented reality experience features 11 leading cultural educators and scientific experts. The “living portraits” on the plaques consist of portrait images that “come to life” by employing augmented reality (AR) technology. By using the AR viewer on a smartphone and pointing the camera towards the portrait, it creates a lifelike experience for the guest as the image begins to move and speak when viewed on the phone’s screen.

Hawai‘i Land Trust to honor Lindsey family at Buy Back the Beach on Jan. 25

In response to the devastating wildfires and immediate needs in the community, media moguls Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson announced the establishment of “People’s Fund of Maui” to distribute cash directly to those who were displaced and affected by the fire. The fund is launching with an initial $10 million donated by Winfrey and Johnson and a call to action for others to contribute to this meaningful and ongoing relief effort.

Ekolu Lindsey Honored With Grassroots Initiative Award

The County of Maui, Department of Planning announced the selection of Edwin “Ekolu” Lindsey as the recipient of the 2019 Hawaiʻi Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Grassroots Initiative Special Recognition Award.
