With the designation, all five of Host’s Hawaiʻi properties have now earned LEED certification, the company said. The others are Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort and ʻIlikai Villas; Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui; Hyatt Place Waikīkī Beach; and Maui Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.

The countdown is on for the 13th Annual Hawaiʻi Energy Conference to be held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center May 20 and 21, exploring the theme of Energy: Power, People and Place.

The Maui County Council will meet July 8 at 9 a.m. to consider zoning legislation on agricultural tourism, parking requirements for electric vehicles, food trucks in the agricultural district, the size of accessory dwellings and the definition of various land-use terms.

Hawaiʻi Energy is seeking applicants for its 2022-2023 EmPOWER Grant program, which is designed specifically for nonprofits, small businesses and restaurants that are pursuing energy efficiency projects at their facilities.

The bills signed into law relate to climate mitigation, energy efficiency, renewable portfolio standards, and zero emission vehicle fueling rebates.

With the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed into law, Hawaiʻi Energy has identified specific clean energy opportunities for the state and local businesses.

“Many of Hawai‘i’s businesses and nonprofits are still grappling with high energy costs as they try to keep their doors open through these trying times,” said Chester Carson, affordability & accessibility program implementer at Hawai‘i Energy. “Through the EmPOWER Grant program, Hawai‘i Energy is offering more than $600,000 in grants to help organizations implement energy efficiency projects at their facilities that will save both energy and money.”

State lawmakers will hold an informational briefing next week to hear from the Hawaiʻi Energy program about their progress on energy efficiency measures in the state to achieve the Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard of 4,300 gigawatt hours by 2030.

The Westin Ka`anapali Ocean Resort Villas received a conservation and energy efficiency incentive check of $215,657 from Hawaii Energy today.

Business owners will be given the chance to learn about tools and strategies that can be implemented to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy use in their businesses.

The state and the county have taken a special interest in energy reduction at Maui restaurants and are sponsoring a free-day workshop series and energy consumption survey.

Come November, a new electric vehicle, priced at $16,000, after state and federal tax rebates, and called the “i”, will begin rolling out statewide from Cutter Mitsubishi in Aiea.

The County of Maui’s Office of Economic Development and the Hawaii State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) are co-sponsoring a Green Workforce Development Symposium on March 30, 2011.
