The program will provide hands-on training and nationally recognized certifications for contractors, builders and tradespeople across Hawai‘i.

Maui United Way, in partnership with Hā Sustainability and Environmental Science International, invites community members to participate in the next round of workshops for the Maui United Way Environmental Recovery Initiative, a community-first initiative supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency to assess and revitalize underutilized lands in Lahaina, Kahului, and Wailuku. 

Amid ongoing efforts to address brownfields on Maui, two organizations are spearheading a transformative initiative to test for contaminants and ultimately convert long-abandoned sites into vibrant community spaces.

The Environmental Recovery Initiative, a two-year, community-first initiative, will identify and assess “brownfields”, properties where redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental concerns, such as gas stations, industrial sites, and lands affected by wildfire.

The workshop takes place on March 11, 2025, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Lahainaluna cafeteria. This workshop will focus on microgrids, grid ownership models and community priorities.

This second session is about taking those initial ideas and turning them into actionable pathways for a resilient energy future that honors Lahaina’s heritage.

The Lahaina Energy Partnership invites all Lahaina community members to join the upcoming Co-Design Workshop this Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Lahainaluna cafeteria. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the event occurs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner will be provided.
