Call for public art proposals celebrating Lahaina stories

Maui Public Art Corps recently announced a call for artist proposals to create visual, performance or experiential public art installations inspired by a collection of audio-recorded stories of Lahaina.

Maui Public Art Corps’ Hui Moʻolelo Film Festival, April 27

Maui Public Art Corps in collaboration with the County of Maui and Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House / Maui Historical Society will host its third “Hui Mo‘olelo Film Festival” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The event is FREE and will be held at ProArts Playhouse in Kīhei. The public is invited to this premiere of a new collection of animated film shorts that celebrate Maui history, culture and sense of place.

Lei Day Heritage Festival, May 1 at Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House

Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House hosts its annual celebration of Lei Day on May 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be filled with vibrant colors, fragrant flowers, and the spirit of aloha in honor of the rich tradition of lei-making in Hawaiian culture.

The public is invited to the March installment of the free, monthly Hawaiian Music Series which will feature a special performance by Deason Baybayan. The free concert will be held  at 6 p.m. on March 28, at Hale Hoʻikeʻike at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.

Maui Public Art Corps hosts four public events this April

Maui Public Art Corps will host four public art unveiling events in April, including the unveiling of a mural in Kahului, an artist meet and greet at Hui No‘eau, a sculpture blessing in Makawao, and an animated Hui Moʻolelo Film Festival.

Maui Public Art program to launch in Makawao

Maui Public Art Corps, in partnership with the County of Maui and Hale Hō‘ike‘ike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society, is announcing a new public art project in development for the town of Makawao.  Sculptor Matthias Neumann has been selected to create a piece fronting the Makawao Public Library, which will be unveiled on April 20, 2024.

$30,000 National Endowment for the Arts Grant for Maui’s Hui Moʻolelo program

The County of Maui announced that it has been awarded a prestigious Grants for Arts Projects Award in the amount of $30,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant will support the County’s Hui Mo’olelo program, a collaborative initiative in partnership with Maui Public Art Corps and Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society.

Pop-up performance by Anthony Pfluke with songs inspired by Wailuku and Kahoʻolawe

SMALL TOWN * BIG ART artist Anthony Pfluke will present a 30-minute public, outdoor pop-up performance featuring original songs inspired by the history, culture and sense of place of Kahoʻolawe and Wailuku, Maui. The event takes place on June 16, 2023, at Kīpuka Square beside the ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku. 

100 Women Who Care Maui finds fast, simple, and effective way to raise $20K each quarter

The group, 100+ Women Who Care Maui has raised more than $425,000 for local nonprofits or causes since starting in 2014. The group meets four times per year and is now raising more than $20,000 for a Maui nonprofit at each meeting.
