Beginning after sunset Thursday, March 12, 2026, Haleakalā National Park will be closed due to dangerous weather conditions. The closure will go into effect for both the Summit District and Kīpahulu District.

The National Park Service is requesting assistance in identifying anyone responsible for poaching trees at Lelekea Beach in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park.

The Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park will remain open this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Maui Department of Public Works road closure along Hāna Highway has been postponed. 

Authorities recovered the body of an individual from the Pools of ‘Oheʻo in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park late Thursday night, May 30, 2019.

To protect visitor safety, Haleakalā National Park has closed access to the Pools of ʻOheʻo in East Maui.

The Pools of ‘Ohe‘o closed last year in Jan. 2017 due to a rock slide in which a park visitor sustained minor injuries. Scaling work is slated to begin…

In the next few months, the leak will be identified and repaired. Long-term, the park has plans to replace the water system in the next two years.

The upper​ half-mile of the Pīpīwai Trail​ in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park,​ including the viewpoint for Waimoku Falls, is now open​ to visitors.

The Hosmer Grove Campground and Nature Trail is closed due to hazardous trees; and the Pools at ʻOheʻo is closed due to effects from Tropical Storm Darby.

“Their continued closure has not only frustrated residents and visitors, but is resulting in unintended social, economic, and environmental consequences,” said Blickley.
