#Hana High and Elementary School

Design concepts for the Hāna Community Pathway will be presented at the next in-person community meeting in Hāna scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, 4:30 p.m. at Helene Hall, the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization announced Thursday.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education announced today that, with the support of philanthropists and longtime Hawai’i residents Lynne and Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, it has distributed $2.5 million to qualifying DonorsChoose projects by Hawai‘i’s public school teachers. Building on this campaign’s success, HIDOE and the Benioffs also announced that another round of support for Hawai‘i’s teachers is planned later in the academic year. 

Maui High School’s Chelsea Konno was named the 2024 Citizen Scholar for Maui County. Also recognized from each public school within Maui County were: Penelope Tupou of Baldwin High School; Hennessy Arroyo of Hāna High & Elementary School; Gizelle Rodrigues of Kekaulike High School; M. Jee Abara of Lahainaluna High School; Hershey Lei Estacio Manuel of Lānaʻi High & Elementary School; and Kilinaheokekai Puhi of Molokaʻi High School.

Nearly 10 inches of rain – the highest rainfall total in the state – was recorded in United States Geological Survey’s rain gauge near Keʻanae in a 24-hour period ending at 1 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2023.

Maui’s Wailuku Elementary is one of 11 public preschool classroom sites across the state that are slated to open this school year, thanks to Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke and the Ready Keiki Initiative.

The Senate Committee on Ways and Means will be traveling to Maui on Oct. 18-20, 2021 to conduct site visits at various state and private facilities.  

Hāna High & Elementary school in East Maui is closed today due to power outages in the area. The state Department of Education issued the notification last night amid inclement weather and heavy rains over the East Maui area.

Three Maui County high school graduates were recently awarded $1,000 each from the Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation Scholarship program. Now in its 16th year, the program provides scholarships to students who will attend an accredited four-year college or university. Malaikini’s initial goal was to get two flag poles so that the Hawaiian flag does not get placed below the US flag, but now he sees a broader purpose.

The Hāna students produced a video on environmental sustainability that focused on educating the younger generation by passing down teachings of their kupuna.

Hana High and Elementary School mathematics teacher, Mitzi Hasegawa was recognized by the Maui Senate Delegation for being named 2012 Maui School District Teach of the Year.

The Maui recipients were Zachary Pezzillo, Miracle Helekahi, and Chris Nunokawa. The awards were based on outstanding high school achievements.
