The Hāna Highway is now partially open for contra-flow traffic as of 6 a.m. A downed tree is blocking a portion of the road in Nāhiku.

As of 8:08 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, the Honoapiʻilani Highway is open to the public. It was partially closed between Lower Honoapiʻilani Road and Kai Malina Parkway due to a motor vehicle accident reported in the afternoon.

Update: A head-on crash early Wednesday morning claimed the life of three people. Maui police have since identified all individuals involved. Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the fiery crash.

The County of Maui will hold three community meetings for residents and businesses impacted by the emergency road closure at the Alelele Point area in East Maui. This comes after recent rockfalls in the area.

(10:13 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023) The Honopiʻilani Highway is now OPEN at Māʻalaea Road. The road was closed earlier due to a motor vehicle accident.

The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

A motor vehicle accident involving a flipped truck snarled traffic for hours along the “Pali” section of the Honoapiʻilani Highway on Saturday morning.

Highway closures are planned on the Maui Veterans Highway on Thursday morning, Oct. 6, 2022 between 2 and 5 a.m.

“A number of factors contribute to the repair time. In this case, we had to bring in a contractor to help plant the new pole as the ground was rock and special equipment was needed,” according to a Hawaiian Telcom spokesperson.

Update: (4:33 p.m. 6.3.22) Motorists are advised on ongoing detours on the Hāna Highway following a motor vehicle accident reported in the area of Pāʻia Bay earlier this afternoon. All east-bound traffic is being routed through the Pāʻia Bypass, down Baldwin Avenue. West-bound traffic is now open through Pāʻia Town on Hāna Highway.

Piʻilani/Hāna Highway is closed at Mile 39 in Kīpahulu at the Kukuiula Bridge. Repairs began at 2 p.m. today at the location, and are expected to last for two months.

Crews from the Maui Department of Public Works have cleared a portion of Piʻilani Highway from Kanaio to Kahikinui, but landslides and roadway damage continue to keep the highway impassable from mile marker 31 through 39.

A 37-year-old Kahului man suffered life-threatening injuries when he collided into a wild pig in the roadway and was ejected while operating a motor scooter on the Maui Veterans “Mokulele” Highway (311) on Saturday night.
