#Honoapiilani closure

Update: (3:11 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023) The Honoapiʻilani Highway in the area of Hōkiokio to Front Street is now OPEN in both directions.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is notifying drivers of a 24-hour closure beginning Tuesday, Oct. 25 of the southbound lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway at the intersection of Kaka Alaneo Drive.  

Motorists are advised of a single lane closure, and intermittent closures of both lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway near Mile 9, in the vicinity of Papawai Point, on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Closures slated for Feb. 8 to Feb. 14. 

Drivers are being advised of road closures, traffic delays, and re-routing this Sunday, Oct. 13 for the 49th annual Maui Marathon. 

West Maui motorists are being advised that a brushfire on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway in Ukumehame may force the closure of the highway if the blaze is not contained within the next hour. Fire personnel say winds of up to 20 to 30 miles per hour are fanning fire, which was said to be near Ehehene Street.

The 52-year-old Lahaina man was traveling towards Māʻalaea when the vehicle he was operating crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle carrying four people that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Police have since identified the man who died at the scene of a multiple vehicle collision reported west of the highway tunnel near Papalaua Wayside Park on Thursday morning, May 9, 2013.

Fire crews from Ladder 3 out of Lahaina responded to a report of the fire at 2:40 p.m. near mile marker 14 of the Highway along the mauka side of the road.

By 12:50 a.m., the Highway was completely open in both directions, and traffic was allowed to resume its normal two-lane flow. The accident was reported near mile marker 11, on the Lahaina side of the pali tunnel.

The Honoapiilani Highway is now open following an accident that forced the closure of the road for about two hours overnight. The closure went into effect at 1:55 a.m. on the Honoapiilani Highway between Akahele Street and Lower Honoapiilani Road. Details of the accident are pending release.

Officials say the fire was called under control by 1:56 p.m., and the highway was reopened at 2:32 p.m. Mainaga said the area involved was approximately 100 yards long by 20 feet wide. The cause, he said, is undetermined at this time.

When the pick-up truck effected a right turn onto Wahikuli Road in front of the moped, the moped collided with the right front fender of the pick-up truck, police said. Medic 4 arrived on scene at 11:39 a.m. and found the patient unresponsive and with traumatic head injuries.

Maui motorists experienced several slow-downs throughout the day. On the Honoapiilani Highway, two accidents were reported on Thursday afternoon. On the Kahekili Highway and South Kihei Road, heavy ponding was reported.

Maui police are investigating the suspected involvement of speed and drugs as contributing factors in an early morning head-on collision on the Honoapiilani Highway that left two Lahaina women hospitalized in critical condition.

The work will result in the nighttime closure of the southbound lanes of the Honoapiilani Highway for 10 hours beginning Saturday night

The Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30) is now open following a motor vehicle accident fronting Launiupoko Park in West Maui. Police had cleared the accident and completed their investigation by 8:31 a.m.

Ongoing road resurfacing work will result in the closure of the Honoapiilani Highway in both directions near the Kehalani Subdivision in Wailuku.

Motorists traveling to or from West Maui at this hour are advised of a traffic accident on the Honoapiilani Hwy near Mile Post 17.

The Honoapiilani Highway is now open in both directions. It was temporarily closed at around 8:30 p.m. due to a motor vehicle accident between Kenui and Keawe Streets.
