New Kahului Transit Center to open Nov. 20

The new Maui Bus Kahului Transit Center is set to open on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at 18 Vevau St., near Kahului Public Library and fronting Kahului Lani Apartment Complex. All Maui Bus services currently operating from Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will relocate to the new Kahului Transit Center. The final day of service at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will be Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. The announcement comes more than three years after it broke ground in February 2021, and reported delays in project completion. 

Catholic Charities Hawai‘i leadership transition announced

Catholic Charities Hawai‘i’s Rob Van Tassell will retire as president and chief executive officer on Jan. 6, the nonprofit’s board of directors announced Wednesday. He will be succeeded by current Chief Operating Officer Tina Andrade, making her the first female and Native Hawaiian leader of the organization.

Hale Mahaolu’s Grant Chun to retire; Anders Lyons named executive director, Trevor Tokishi board president

Hale Mahaolu, a nonprofit affordable housing provider, today announced that Anders Lyons has been appointed executive director of the organization. Lyons previously served as the nonprofit’s board president. Hale Mahaolu, which has a portfolio of 13 properties with more than 1,000 units of affordable housing, also announced that its executive director, Grant Chun, will retire and that Trevor Tokishi has been named board president.

Gov. Ige participates in ceremonies for two Maui affordable housing projects with state funding

On Tuesday, Gov. David Ige participated in ceremonies marking milestones for two Maui affordable housing projects – the dedication of the recently completed Kahului Lani senior affordable project in Kahului and the ground blessing for the family-oriented affordable Kaiāulu o Kūku’ia complex in Lahaina.

Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation will dedicate the second phase of its Kahului Lani senior affordable rental housing development on July 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Applications Available for Kahului Lani Phase 2, Low-Income Rentals for Seniors

Applications are currently being accepted for the second phase of Kahului Lani, an affordable senior rental complex developed by Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation in Central Maui. Kahului Lani provides seniors, ages 55 and over, who earn 60% or less of the county median income with an affordable permanent living option, offering complementary amenities so residents can “age in place.”

Kahului Lani Senior Affordable Housing Complex Welcomes First Tenants

Catholic Charities Hawai’i earlier this week welcomed the first tenants of its new Kahului Lani senior affordable housing complex on Maui. The first phase of the 165-unit senior affordable rental complex is located along Kane Street across from the Kahului Foodland.

Move in Date Near for Phase I of Kahului Lani Senior Housing Project

There are 81 units in the completed first phase. Another 83 units will be built in a second phase on the same property directly across the street from Foodland at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului. County officials say residents are expected to move in soon.

Lottery Drawing Held for Kahului Lani Phase 1

A lottery drawing was recently held for applications of the Kahului Lani Phase I, senior affordable rental complex on Maui. More than 400 applications were received during August 12 and 30, 2019. The target move-in date is February 2020.
