Funds include: $5.83M for Baldwin High School athletic facility improvements; $3.026M to improve aging athletic facilities at Molokaʻi High School; $1M for campus fencing and gates at Haʻikū Elementary; and $500,000 to finance design to determine gym improvements for Lānaʻi High and Elementary School.

The allocation includes $21.9 million for projects on Maui with the biggest allocation of $10.4 million going to finance design and construction for field improvements to the baseball and softball fields at King Kekaulike High School.

More than $533 million was set aside for Capital Improvement Projects on Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi as part of the $5.1 billion CIP budget bill passed by the state legislature on May 21 for Fiscal Years 2020 and 2021.

Work has begun on a $692,546 upgrade project at the Haʻikū Community Center’s restroom and kitchen. The community center has been closed because of COVID-19, and improvement work will keep it closed through April 30, 2021.

CIP highlights for Maui include: $3 million for plans and designs of a new middle school in Central Maui; $500,000 for perimeter fence at ʻĪao Intermediate School; $9 million for Lealiʻi parkways and highways improvements; $11 million for Kāʻanapali Beach Restoration and Berm Enhancement; $3 million for a ferry pier at Lahaina Boat Harbor; $4 million for improvements Waiʻanapanapa State Park in East Maui; $5 million for the Maui Regional Public Safety Complex; and $40 million for the widening of Puʻunēnē Avenue from Kamehameha Avenue to Kūihelani Highway.

Maui nonprofit organizations secured $4.5 million in Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Grant-in-Aid funds.

Highlights include: $9.3 million in FY21 for the Molokaʻi Irrigation System; $17 million in FY20 for a new classroom building at Pāʻia Elementary School

A House Committee approved $83 million for Central Maui CIPs, including $500K for dorm renovations at Maui Community Correctional Center.

The effort was spearheaded by Rep. Joe Souki of Maui, and includesmoney to make improvements to air conditioning systems at the Kaʻaike and Pāʻina buildings.

Maui representatives secured more than $438 million in CIP funding for the biennium of fiscal years 2018 and 2019 for various projects in Maui County.

The House approved $31.2 million for capital improvement projects for Central Maui including funds for: Kahului Elementary, Maui Waena, Kahului Airport, and Kahului Harbor.

The house budget includes $9 million for flood damage reconstruction at the ʻĪao Valley State Monument on Maui.

Funding allocation includes: $37.5 million for design and construction for new high school in Kīhei; $770,000 for air conditioning and improvements at Lahainaluna High school; and $1.95 million for improvements at Maui High School.

The largest Transportation appropriation is $43.6 million for Hāna Highway rockfall mitigation, repairs, widening and/or realignment.

Speaker Souki said there is a balance that must be sought to ensure that needed projects are funded to maintain state services and ensure quality of life on Maui.

The Maui House delegation secured an estimated $165 million in Capital Improvement Project funds for various projects across Maui County as part of a budget bill that now advances to the state Senate for further consideration.

Maui is to receive funding for a variety of projects in the latest round of capital improvement expenditures from the state.

Full funding for a new Kīhei High School, in the amount of $130 million, is included in a draft version of the legislative budget that is now headed to the full House and Senate for final votes.

Governor Neil Abercrombie announced the release of more than $46 million for various capital improvement projects across Hawaii. The funds include more than $5 million for the design and construction for expansion and improvements to the Maui Veterans Cemetery.
