Waikō fire burns less than 3 acres on Friday; cause undetermined

Less than three acres burned in a brush fire along Waikō Road and Kūihelani Highway on Friday afternoon. Firefighters arrived to find an area of brush and kiawe trees burning on vacant land.
Update: Waikapū brush fire extinguished, all roads now OPEN

The fire near Waikō Road and Kūihelani Highway was extinguished as of 8:54 p.m., according to Maui Fire Command. All roads have since reopened in the area.

Kahikinui fire 93% contained; evacuation orders lifted

Evacuation orders for Kahikinui were lifted at 7 p.m. today, June 16, due to increased fire containment, according to Maui Emergency Management Agency. The fire has burned 330 acres since it first started Sunday morning, and was 93% contained as of nightfall on Monday.

One person was displaced after a fire destroyed a single-story structure off Malaihi Road in Wailuku, Sunday night. This person was checked out at the scene for injuries by Emergency Medical Services personnel and was being assisted by the American Red Cross.

A fire at a Central Maui home was contained to a second story bedroom on Saturday night. The fire was reported at 9:33 p.m. on Dec. 14 at a home on Hoʻomoku St. in Kahului. The fire damaged a wall, mattress, nearby shelves and their contents.
Brush fire along Honoapiʻilani in Waikapū now 75% contained

Maui fire crews are responding to a brush fire reported at around 12:22 p.m. on Saturday makai of the Honoapi’ilani near the Kahili Golf Course in Waikapū. By 1:15 p.m., crews had gained 75% containment on the fire and forward progress was stopped at around 1:50 p.m. Department officials estimate the size to be around four to five acres.
Crews battle 4 acre brush fire in Piʻihana area of Wailuku; Flames knocked down

Thursday’s brush fire in Piʻihana burned 4.6 acres before it was 100% contained at 5 p.m. Crews remained on scene overnight to continue mop-up and address any flare-ups. The area received light trade showers overnight and this morning. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area throughout the day today. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A fire along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Friday afternoon burned five acres of brush before it was brought under control. Fire officials declared the blaze 100% contained at 6:55 p.m. No damages were reported.
Grassroots nonprofit Mālama Kula installs fire detection cameras in Upper Kula
