#Maui food insecurity

The nonprofit Common Ground Collective is calling on all members of the Maui community involved in food production, preparation, distribution and grocery shoppers to share their input by participating in its surveys. Feedback will be used to create agricultural infrastructure and to improve access to locally grown food on the island.

Maui United Way announced the launch of its Mā’ona Food Security Grant, a new initiative aimed at addressing the growing food insecurity challenges faced by residents of Maui County.

Shonnan Kozuch was hired as the new executive director of the Hua Momona Foundation, which provides food to those with food insecurity on Maui.

The Homestead Community Development Corporation nonprofit, dedicated to Hawaiian Home Land areas statewide, has issued food sovereignty grants to over 18 families so far in the second quarter of 2021, with an expected 40 additional grants to be made to families on all islands over the next year.

Azeka Shopping Center in Kīhei is hosting a food drive now through April 11 to support the Maui Food Bank’s mission to feed Maui County residents.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for the “Micro-Grants for Food Security Program,” which provides support for small-scale gardening, herding and livestock operations to help produce food in areas where people don’t have enough to eat.
