Maui Pineapple Store has launched three exclusive Holiday Gift Boxes packed with pineapple-inspired products — just in time for the holidays.

The company says its fields are getting “eaten alive by axis deer and feral pigs,” and many Maui farms are facing similar challenges.

A new partnership between Maui Gold Pineapple and Amazon Air is being called a “game-changer” for Hawaiʻi’s agricultural industry, providing a direct, fast and cost-effective shipping solution to the continental United States. Beginning with a test shipment early this month, the collaboration has already slashed freight costs by up to 60% and opened up new markets for the product.

Hawaiʻi Farm Project announced the appointment of Julie Strong as Director of Finance and Edgar Cordero as General Manager of Maui Gold Pineapple, effective Monday, May 5. Strong, a seasoned financial leader, will guide the organization’s fiscal strategy, while Cordero, formerly Farm Manager, steps into his new role to lead Maui Gold Pineapple’s farming, processing and sales operations.

A pilot project to boost soil health on Maui’s only large-scale pineapple farm aims to increase biomass to retain more water—up to 100,000 gallons per acre.

This summer, the Maui Economic Development Board’s (MEDB) STEMworks program welcomed its largest cohort of interns to date. A total of 89 high school and college students from across the state participated—64 in the STEMworks Innovation Internship program, and 25 in the Maui County Agriculture Business and Technology program. 

Maui Gold Pineapple contributed $2,000 to support Lahainaluna High School’s Robotics Team, assisting promising STEM students with travel and opportunity costs. 

Maui Gold Pineapple has announced its market expansion to distribute in Canada. Residents of Canada will be able to experience the fruit, grown on the slopes of Maui’s Haleakalā. The fresh water and nutritional volcanic soil nurture Hawaiʻi’s famously sweet pineapple.

Two Maui companies are joining the fight against COVID-19 by teaming up to produce hand sanitizer in order to best support those on the front lines of the pandemic. Pau Maui Vodka and Maui Gold Pineapple are focusing on maximizing impact by providing sanitizer directly to healthcare workers, government employees and community entities. The companies have produced their first run of hand sanitizer which will be available by the end of the week.

In March, the LeVecke family, owners of Hāliʻimaile Distilling Company, acquired Hāliʻimaile Pineapple Company and its Maui Gold Pineapple Company.

Maui-grown pineapples are being incorporated into student meals statewide as part of the ʻAina Pono Hawaiʻi State Harvest of the Month program in May.

Maui County Agricultural Festival is set for April 2, with a farmers market, food, educational activities, cooking classes and plenty of family-friendly fun.

A bus tour of Maui manufacturing facilities will take place on Monday, Sept. 28 in conjunction with National Manufacturing Week. The bus tour schedule includes stops at HC&S, Maui Soda & Ice Works/Roselani, Hāliʻimaile/Maui Gold and Pau Maui Vodka.
