Of the close to 1.4 million vehicles on Hawai‘i’s roads, approximately 280,000 vehicles, could have at least one outstanding safety recall.

Maui police host child safety seat inspection, June 7

The Maui Police Department will host a child safety seat inspection event within the Maui Marketplace parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event is held in collaboration with the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

MADD shares safety tips as holiday impaired driving incidents rise

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is reminding everyone to make safety a top priority during New Year’s celebrations. Drunk driving deaths have increased 33% since 2019, and New Year’s is one of the most dangerous holidays for impaired driving crashes.

Drivers reminded to “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” for distracted driver awareness month

According to NHTSA, “Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for five seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.”

The Maui Police Department, in collaboration with the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will host a child safety seat inspection event within the Maui Marketplace parking lot on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Maui Police Continue Awareness Efforts After Nine Impaired Driving Fatalities in 2021

So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on Maui County roads, up 87% compared to the eight fatalities recorded at the same time last year. Nine of the fatalities this year were alcohol, drugs, and speed related, representing 60% of all crashes.
