The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational has secured a new sponsor. On Monday, Rip Curl broke the news of a brand new partnership with the competition ahead of the forthcoming event this winter—its 40th year at Waimea Bay, Oʻahu.

Yellow Alert Called ON for Possible Start of “Eddie” on Thursday
Organizers of the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau big wave event today issued a Yellow Alert for a possible start on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Waimea Bay on Oʻahu.
UPDATE: Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Called “OFF”
Although contest organizers earlier this week announced that the Quicksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau would go, they called off the competition this morning because surf is not materializing as they hoped and will not meet the minimum criteria for the event of at least 40 foot faces.
“Ginormous” Swell Arrives, Eddie in Holding Period
The forecast calls for 25 to 35 foot surf along the north shores, and 15 to 25 footers along the west shores. As large swells approach this winter season, big wave surfers are monitoring conditions for size and consistency on Oahu’s North Shore.
