Due to the inclement weather, night work scheduled for this week has been postponed to the week of Feb. 17-20. 

The state Department of Transportation is notifying road users that all lanes on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) will be closed nightly from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 to 4:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13. The closure affects lanes between Wākea Avenue and Kūihelani Highway (Route 380).

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation expects to complete the widening of Puʻunēnē Avenue by the end of March 2026, marking a significant milestone for relieving traffic congestion in Central Maui.

Motorists on Maui are advised of potential traffic delays due to roving lane closures on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) on Friday, Jan. 10, for drilling of soil samples for the Puʻunēnē Avenue improvements project.

The two-lane Puʻunēnē Avenue bottleneck has long been a headache for Central Maui motorists. Traffic slows to a crawl during get-to-school and pau hana times, morning and afternoon, from Wākea Avenue to Kūihelani Highway.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public meeting on proposed improvements to Puʻunēnē Avenue between Wākea Avenue and Kūihelani Highway.

The intersection at Wākea Avenue and Hoʻohana Street in Kahului will operate as a four-way stop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, while work is done on the traffic signal.

Five traffic signals in Central Maui are scheduled for upgrades starting at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. The Department of Public Works Highways Division asks motorists to proceed with caution through the intersection and expect delays.

The owners say that that although their “forced retirement comes 10 years too soon,” they hope to reopen their eatery at another location.

Maui Electric will be doing upgrades to electrical equipment tonight that will require a road closure at Alamaha Street and Wākea Avenue.

Due to a 12-inch waterline break in Kahului this morning, Wākea Avenue in Kahului will be restricted to one lane traffic only between Lono and Kamehameha Avenues.

Maui police arrested a man for allegedly using his van to intentionally run over a 47-year-old man who was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk in Kahului.

Maui Master Builders will be conducting emergency repair work on Wākea Avenue in Kahului, starting tomorrow, Friday, March 6, at 9 p.m. The company will also begin work on its Kokomo Road Pavement Reconstruction project, which is slated to begin next Saturday, March 14.

Maui Master Builders continues roadwork on Wākea Avenue, starting work today along a section of road between Kaʻahaumanu Avenue and Ano Street.

The repairs will result in the closure of a portion of Maka’ala Drive in Waiheu, and Wakea Avenue in Kahului.

E Wakea Avenue is now completely open. It was partially closed earlier this morning due to work being conducted by the Water Department.

Department of Water Supply customers in Wailuku are asked to conserve water this weekend while the Waiale Tank is off-line for a tie-in project.
