Update/restoration underway: 1,352 customers without power in West Maui
Update: (11:50 a.m., Feb. 29, 2024) Power has been restored to a majority of customers affected by an outage in the Mahinahina / Kahana area. The outage was first reported at around 7:40 a.m. By 11:50 a.m., all but 50 customers had power restored. Crews remain on scene where work to complete repairs is underway.
Hawaiian Electric restoration efforts continue following West Maui fire
Hawaiian Electric is continuing restoration work to rebuild portions of the electric system in Lahaina in an effort to ensure safe and reliable power to all West Maui customers following the August 2023 wildfires. Ongoing restoration efforts include the rebuilding of transmission and distribution lines along former routes in the Lahaina area with the installation of new interim steel poles and electrical equipment.
Hawaiian Electric continues urgent restoration work in Lahaina
Currently, crews are continuing repairs to restore an approximate 300 remaining customers in Lahaina, including the Wahikuli area. In the last two weeks, with more areas being cleared for re-entry by emergency response officials, crews restored power to about 350 customers in the Kahoma Village, parts of Puamana and Upper Kapunakea area.
Hawaiian Electric begins restoration work in Lahaina at request of Maui Emergency Operations Center
The County of Maui through its Emergency Operations Center and Maui Emergency Management Agency has requested this utility work to begin in the upcoming weeks to restore county wastewater pumps that service the area. The work also enables the interim rebuilding of two backup circuits that can reroute power to customers and neighborhoods in the Puamana, Launiupoko to Olowalu area, and mauka of the Lahaina Bypass.
Power restored for some businesses in West Maui; Temporary poles aid in restoration
As the Maui community discusses what the future of its energy delivery system will look like, overhead poles are being used as an interim solution in order for customers in Lahaina to safely receive electricity.
Power restored to more areas of West Maui; Hotels plan to house residents displaced by fire
Hawaiian Electric restored additional circuits today in West Maui, picking up customers along the Kā‘anapali Coast, including many of the hotels, resorts and condominiums that had been without electricity since Tuesday. Since Friday, service has been restored to about 5,500 customers in West Maui.
Hawaiian Electric crews continue with damage assessments, repairs
In continued coordination with State and County emergency response efforts, Hawaiian Electric crews today are continuing to make repairs in areas that are safe and accessible. 70 customers remain without power in Upcountry. All of West Maui remains without power.
4,000 Still Without Power in West Maui
Maui Electric crews continue to work on restoring power to about 4,000 customers in West Maui and pockets of Upcountry, Ha‘ikū and Waihe‘e today after these areas experienced outages due to heavy winds and downed trees.
