At Haleakalā National Park yesterday, the Director of Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and conservationists involved in Birds, Not Mosquitoes, shed light on the ongoing project to save native birds on East Maui.

State Rep. Mahina Poepoe has introduced Bill 2544, which provides dependable non-emergency medical transportation for residents of medically underserved rural communities such as Molokai and Lāna‘i. The measure makes chartered flights to seat patients, as well as health care providers.

Kona low continues to bring unsettled weather: Flood Watch continues

The Flash Flood Warning is canceled for the island of Maui as of 2:38 p.m. The National Weather Service reports that the heavy rain has ended. Hāna Highway has been reopened, but portions of Piʻilani Highway remain closed. A Flood Watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. on Friday for all of the main Hawaiian Islands.

Roadway at Alelele Point in East Maui reopens after emergency rock removal work

The County of Maui’s roadway along rural Alelele Point in East Maui was reopened Tuesday, after the completion of infrastructure reinstallation that followed emergency slope scaling and rock debris removal.

Barriers, electric signs warn motorists of East Maui road closure following rockfall

County of Maui crews set up concrete barriers today to prevent traffic along a nearly 1-mile Hāna Highway road closure in Kīpahulu where unstable cliffs pose a safety hazard. The closure prevents motorists from traveling completely around the rural area that connects East Maui and South Maui.

East Maui’s Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke Building Program is the recipient of a $220,000 grant from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs that will support the Native Hawaiian community.

As of noon on Tuesday, Oct. 4, Piʻilani Highway at Nuʻu Bay has reopened, the Department of Public Works reported.
