Maui Council shakeup: Chair Lee won’t seek re-election to Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū seat
Maui County Council Chair Alice Lee said Wednesday evening that she will not seek re-election this year. Instead, the veteran council member is throwing her support behind Marvin Moniz, a longtime state Department of Transportation airports manager, to succeed her in the Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū residency seat.
New lanes to open on Puʻunēnē Avenue
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation notifies highway users that the newly added single lanes in both directions on Puʻunēnē Avenue (Route 3500) between West and East Wākea Avenues and Kuihelani Highway (Route 380) will open at 7 a.m., Thursday, April 16.
Department of Transportation reminds the public: Don’t fall for scams
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is reminding people not to click on links in unsolicited text messages. Several scam text messages have been making the rounds claiming to be from the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, or the “Department of Motor Vehicles” regarding unpaid traffic violations and subsequent holds on driver’s licensing.
Clearing transportation facilities following storms, ensuring bridge safety
HDOT has received concerns regarding the ‘Ῑao Stream (Wailuku River) Bridge and would like to reassure Central Maui residents that the bridge has been inspected and cleared. The crack on the bridge is related to the bridge deck joints and was recorded on the bridge’s 2024 inspection. Bridge deck joints allow for regular expansion of the deck as the bridge heats and cools.

Comments on Transportation Energy Security & Waste Reduction Plan extended to Aug. 31
The plan provides strategies for the transportation sector to achieve the state climate targets set in law – a 50% reduction in emissions from 2005 levels by 2030, net negative transportation emissions by 2045, and ultimately zero transportation emissions.
