The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali is planning a weeklong Fourth of July celebration that trades traditional fireworks for a choreographed drone light show and the resort’s signature “flowerworks” — a helicopter drop of orchids over the pool deck.

This initiative seeks to engage artists to explore the realities of climate change and channel their art to inspire and connect Hawaiʻi residents to climate challenges around the state.

The County of Maui Office of Economic Development invites Maui County businesses to be featured in its 2025 Maui Nui Holiday Deals campaign on https://www.MauiNuiFirst.com. This initiative offers an opportunity for businesses based on Maui, Moloka‘i and Lānaʻi to share their holiday offerings and engage with residents and visitors looking to shop local this season.

In actuality, the typical household can comfortably afford a $379,000 house. But in 2024, there were zero homes sold within that price range, and only a half dozen single-family transactions under $500,000, according to the LCLT report.

An Avis-Budget rental office has opened at Maui Mall Village, giving kamaʻāina and visitors a convenient alternative location for all their car rental needs on the Valley Isle. The outlet, which features a full-service rental counter, is located next to IHOP and Crystal Dreams. Rental cars may be picked up from and returned to reserved stalls conveniently located in the Maui Mall Village parking lot.

World Ocean Day is held each year on June 8 to “help unite and rally the world to protect and restore our blue planet.” Maui Ocean Center will celebrate World Ocean Day with family-friendly activities including live music, art projects and marine naturalist presentations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Discounted admission for kama‘āina, with valid Hawaiʻi state ID, is $10 per person (ages 3 and younger are free).

The Maui Ocean Center is offering discounted admission every weekend to all Hawai‘i residents, aiming to support community recovery and self-care in the aftermath of the recent wildfires.

Dozens of wellness providers, such as massage therapists and counselors, have volunteered their services for a free community pop-up clinic this Friday, Aug. 25, and Saturday, Aug. 26. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the parking lot outside of Maui Ocean Center. The two-day clinic will be followed by free admission to Maui Ocean Center for kamaʻāina from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last entry at 4 p.m.) this Sunday, Aug. 27.

Maui Ocean Center will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, with family-friendly fun including face painting, interactive games with prizes and ocean-themed activities led by marine naturalists.  

Executive Chef Alvin Savella, known in the culinary world as “The Kitchen Assassin,” has opened a new restaurant on Maui, Duckine.

The infilled neighborhood will consist of 100% owner occupied workforce housing units exclusively for local residents and all created with sustainable design and construction. The development itself will consist of 40 duplexes across three acres of land.
