The 2026 Be Reel Child & Youth Film Festival kicks off with a spectacular last-minute addition to launch the four-day festival: the critically acclaimed Hawaiʻi-made documentary, “KULEANA.”

“Harmony Under the Stars: A Night of Broadway” is a one-night-only benefit concert presented by the Wave of Harmony Foundation, bringing acclaimed Broadway performers to Maui for an unforgettable evening under the stars.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents the Maui Showcase for the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival (HIFF) with nine documentary films, including a collection of four short films, as well as one drama short film. All screenings will take place in the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater starting Saturday, Nov. 8, and concluding Sunday, Nov. 9. Tickets for HIFF 2024 Maui Showcase are on sale now at MauiArts.org.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, Maui Film Commissioner Brian Kohne will address the Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea, presenting on the topic of “Maui’s Nascent Motion Picture Industry.”

“KULEANA,” the first locally-made motion picture in a decade to screen in theatre chains statewide, is set to release as a Blu Ray/DVD combo, and to Video on Demand as “KULEANA-MAUI.”

Award-winning producer and director Brian Kohne is the new director for the Creative Media program at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College.

Brian Kohne, a 2015 Writers Immersive fellow, will also be taking his award-winning motion picture, “Maui” (previously known as “Kuleana”), to the market with a foreign sales distributor, American Cinema International.
