Molokaʻi brush fire burns 80 acres, damages small shack and abandoned vehicle
A brush fire burned 80 acres on Molokaʻi before it was fully contained at around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire was first reported at 10:25 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2024 in the area of Naiwa St., south of the Molokaʻi Airport. Fire officials say one small shack was damaged and an abandoned vehicle burned in the fire. The value of damages has not yet been determined.

The Hawai‘i Community Foundation announced a $2.128 million grant to the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation. The total award amount comprises $1 million from HCF’s Maui Strong Fund and $1.128 million donated by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. The new trucks will have the ability to drive off-pavement, allowing crews to better reach wildfires early and prevent them from spreading.

Kūihelani brush fire updates: 5 acres burned; 100% contained as of 7 p.m.
A fire along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Friday afternoon burned five acres of brush before it was brought under control. Fire officials declared the blaze 100% contained at 6:55 p.m. No damages were reported.
