Maui Coronavirus Updates

Hospital administrators said test positivity is “moving in the right direction,” but urged vigilance saying the surge is not over.

There were 588 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Thursday, including 53 on Maui and four on Molokaʻi.

There were 493 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 62 on Maui and three on Moloka‘i.

Of today’s 423 cases, there were 384 cases identified as confirmed, and 39 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 300 on O‘ahu (+38 probable); 38 on Hawai‘i Island (+3 probable); 25 on Maui (-2 probable); 14 on Kaua‘i; five on Moloka‘i; and two in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College has scheduled two more COVID-19 vaccination clinics. The first is on Saturday, Sept. 25, and the second is on Saturday, Oct. 2. Both are from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be held in the in the Pā‘ina Building on the UHMC Kahului campus.

Oʻahu’s “Safe Access” program for restaurants begins today; and Maui’s “Safer Outside” rules including vaccination guidelines for restaurants, bars and gyms, goes into effect on Wednesday.

There were 461 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Monday, including 311 on Oʻahu, 82 on Hawaiʻi Island, 32 on Maui, 27 on Kauaʻi, two on Molokaʻi, and seven out of state.

There were 735 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Sunday, including 57 on Maui and five on Molokaʻi.

Grammy and Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner, George Kahumoku Jr. of Maui took some time this weekend to share a Public Service Announcement on vaccinations after loosing a friend to COVID recently.

There were 836 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Saturday, including 80 on Maui, three on Lāna‘i, and two on Moloka‘i.

There were 747 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Friday, including 100 on Maui and two on Maloka‘i. There were also eight new deaths reported today–one on Maui and seven on O‘ahu.

Governor David Ige signed an executive order that requires contractors and visitors at state facilities and on state property to provide their vaccination or testing status prior to entry. The Order takes effect on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021.

Multiple pop-up COVID-19 vaccination sites are available across Maui at various times and locations throughout the month of September.

There were 429 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Thursday, including 63 on Maui.

Maui received an on-site Oxygen Generator last week and was able to install and test the unit successfully this week, according to Maui Health.

State officials unveiled the new Hawaiʻi SMART Health Card, which launches on Sept. 10, 2021. The voluntary program enables individuals who received their COVID-19 vaccinations in Hawaiʻi to create a state-issued digital card that may be used to confirm their vaccination status to businesses and venues that require it.

There were 380 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 54 on Maui.

County officials are calling Maui’s new set of rules “Safer Outside.” It includes the previously announced vaccine guidelines for eateries, and newly announced reduction in capacity for commercial recreational boating, ground transportation, and commercial tour operators. There will also be no spectators at indoor or outdoor sporting events.

Hawaiʻi State Epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Kemble answered media questions on Tuesday afternoon about today’s COVID-19 count, pediatric and breakthrough cases, the mu variant and booster shots. During a brief Zoom update, state health officials provided some updates on what we’re seeing now and what we can expect in the weeks ahead.

Governor David Ige signed Executive Order No.21-06 on Sept. 1, which effectively sets a framework for what actions would have to be taken to ration care, and provides protections from civil liability for death or injury caused by omission of care, should hospitals become overwhelmed during COVID-19 response.
