BREAKING: Gov. Ige Signs 17th COVID-19 Emergency Proclamation, Reducing Quarantine From 14 to 10 Days

Gov. David Ige signed a 17th COVID-19 emergency proclamation reducing the state’s mandatory self-quarantine period for travelers entering the state and traveling between counties from 14 to 10 days. The new policy takes effect tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 17 at 12:01 a.m.

Dec. 16, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 110 New Cases (85 O‘ahu, 14 Maui, 5 Hawai‘i Island, 6 Out-of-State); 4 Deaths

There were 110 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 14 on Maui. The new Maui infections include 10 cases in Lahaina, two in Kīhei and one in Wailuku.  One case on Maui is unaccounted for in the mapping update. Of the 856 cases documented in Maui County over the course of the pandemic, Lahaina has the most current infections with 60 cases reported over the past two weeks.

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Trial Run Conducted at UH Maui College

In preparation for phase one of COVID19 vaccine distribution on Maui, a vaccination trial-run was held in the parking lot of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College on Tuesday morning.

A 34-year-old Oregon man was arrested on Maui on Monday, Dec. 14 for allegedly violating Rules and Orders pertaining to a quarantine violation.  

Wailuku Man Arrested on Alleged Quarantine Violation After Return from O‘ahu

On Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at about 10:30 a.m., Jordan Ware, 34, of Wailuku was arrested for Rules and Orders, pertaining to quarantine violation, police said.

Dec. 15, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 57 New Cases (35 O‘ahu, 8 Maui, 10 Hawai‘i Island, 4 Out-of-State)

There were 57 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Tuesday, including eight on Maui. The new Maui infections include four in Lahaina, three in Wailuku and one in Kīhei. In Maui County, Lahaina has the most current infections with 53 cases reported over the past two weeks. Lahaina darkened to the high rate of infection category today, which is defined as locations with anywhere from 51 to 200 cases reported over 14 days. It is the only location in the county that is listed as such.

Training Exercise Conducted for Vaccine Distribution in Hawai‘i

The Hawai‘i Department of Health and City and County of Honolulu today conducted a vaccination distribution exercise to simulate standing up vaccine clinics to immunize first responders and essential workers in the Phase 1 priority group.

Dec. 14, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 190 New Cases (158 O‘ahu, 15 Maui, 15 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Out-of-State)

There were 190 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Monday, including 158 on O‘ahu, 15 on Maui, 15 on Hawaiʻi Island and two in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. The new infections include four cases each in Lahaina and Kahului, two cases each in Kīhei and Makawao and one case in Kula, according to the latest mapping updates provided by the state Department of Health. The two remaining Maui cases were unaccounted for in the latest update.

Dec. 13, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 90 New Cases (58 O‘ahu, 8 Maui, 10 Hawai‘i Island, 4 Kaua‘i, 10 Out-of-State) 3 Deaths

There were 90 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Sunday, including eight on Maui. While the DOH reports eight cases on Maui, the department documented two cases each in Kīhei, Lahaina and Wailuku; and one case each in Makawao, Haʻikū and Kula.

The Hālawa Correctional Facility received additional inmate and staff test results, brining the total number of infections to 167 inmates and 28 staff.

There were 198 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Saturday, including 153 on O‘ahu, 22 on Maui, 17 on Hawaiʻi Island, five on Kauaʻi and one in a Hawai‘i resident diagnosed outside of the state. The Maui count today included 10 cases in Lahaina, three each in Kīhei and Wailuku, two each in Kahului and Makawao, and one case in Kula.

Senators from Hawai‘i Encouraged by FDA Emergency Use Authorization of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine

US Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii) called the announcement a “long-awaited milestone in our nation’s fight against COVID-19.” US Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) called it “a day of great hope and promise.”

Holiday Food Box Distribution Dec. 14 and 15 for H.E.L.P. Voucher Recipients

Dec. 11, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 89 New Cases (57 O‘ahu, 19 Maui, 3 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Kaua‘i, 8 Out-of-State) 1 Death

There were 89 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Friday, including 19 on Maui. Lahaina has the most current infections with 42 cases reported over the past two weeks.   Kīhei also has a medium range of infections with 40 cases reported over the last 14 days.  Kahului has had 17 cases over the same period; and Wailuku was added to the medium infection range list today with 11 cases tallied over the last two weeks.  

New Ultra-Cold Freezer Installed at Kaiser as Maui Prepares for Arrival of COVID-19 Vaccine

In preparation for the first shipment, an ultra-cold freezer unit was purchased and installed to receive vaccine allotment for Maui.  The freezer can hold up to 200,000 doses of vaccine and will be available to help other health care organizations who need access to ultra-cold storage.  The unit can maintain a temperature of -80 and has a real-time monitoring system to ensure safety.

FDA Panel Endorses Pfizer Vaccine, 81,000 Doses Headed to Hawai‘i

An estimated 81,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine are headed to Hawai‘i’, with the first shipment of 4,875 doses of the newly FDA endorsed Pfizer vaccine to possibly arrive as early as next week, according to Governor David Ige.

Dec. 10, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 123 New Cases (79 O‘ahu, 11 Maui, 24 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Kaua‘i, 7 Out-of-State) 2 Deaths

There were 123 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Thursday, including 79 on O‘ahu, 11 on Maui, 24 on Hawaiʻi Island, two on Kauaʻi and seven in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi had no new cases today, however, the state Department of Health confirmed the first case in Kalawao County in the Kalaupapa Settlement area of Molokaʻi.
