The National Transportation Safety Board released a report this week saying the probable cause of a Cessna plane crash on Molokaʻi in January was partial loss of engine power.
Pork Patty Mofongo Takes Top Honors at First-Ever Rum Scrum
Chef Lyndon Honda of Laulima Events won with his Puerto Rican Pork Patty Mofongo, a plantain dish that featured the locally-made rum as the distinctive ingredient, and included chorizo black beans, cotija cheese and chicharrones. UPDATE: Man Medevaced After Fall at Kaihalulu “Red Sand” Trail in Hāna
A man was airlifted out of Kaihalulu Bay in the east Maui town of Hāna after falling from a trail on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015. The incident was reported shortly before 12 p.m. in the area often referred to as “Red Sand Beach.”

HCA Discusses Purchase of 267 acres at Hamakualoa Coast

A 62-year-old man from Kawela, Molokaʻi was pulled from waters near Kamalō Wharf after a witness reported the man’s boat drifting downwind without an operator aboard.
VIDEO: Police Hold Press Conference on Deadly Maui Shooting
Police, who have yet to release the suspects name, say the 39-year-old man with no local address, was shot multiple times by officers. During an initial investigation police recovered over 50 shell casings, nine of them from the perpetrator. Police say the man sustained an estimated 11 gun shot wounds that were located on various parts of his body from his legs to the top of his torso.
Details Released in Deadly Keōpūolani Shootout
Maui police have since identified the deceased man as a 39-year old African American male with no local address, but have not released his name pending notification of next of kin.
Not Your Grandma’s High School: $3 Million Released for Kīhei High
Groundbreaking will take place in September 2015, with the remaining $27 million in initial funds to be used after groundwork has been laid. “I’m really excited that this will be the first Net Zero high school in the entire state,” said Rep. Ing. “It sets an example for what high schools should look like in the future. This is not your grandma’s high school,” he said.
Upcountry Dog Park to Open in December
The Upcountry Dog Park located behind the Maui County Recycling Center in Makawao will open to the public in December, county officials said.
