Kupu Announces EŌ Maui Partnerships with Community Hubs
Two Maui community emergency hubs that have been supporting the needs of those harmed by the wildfire disaster are now partnering with Kupu: The Kāʻanapali Hub and Nāpili Hub are now able to provide paid positions via Kupu while they continue to meet the urgent needs of their community. As the initial phase of this partnership, Kupu’s EŌ Maui has 15 participants on payroll between the two hubs.

Maui man injured in surf, airlifted from Keʻanae
A Maui man suffered injuries while surfing in Keʻanae on Tuesday afternoon. Crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Air 1 and Rescue 10 responded to the report of the surfer who was injured and on shore, but unable to walk. The 44-year-old resident was airlifted from shore and medevaced to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

Bill to exempt property taxes for owners renting long-term to Maui fire survivors passes first reading
The Maui County Council on Tuesday passed the first reading of Mayor Richard Bissen’s Bill 131 that provides 100% property tax exemptions to owners of short-term rentals, timeshares and non-owner occupied homes who rent at least one-year to Maui fire survivors.

MHLA donates $2,500 to Maui’s coral reef restoration
Maui Nui Marine Resource Council conducts ocean water testing at over 30 locations in Maui Nui, including seven in Lahaina’s fire-impacted zones. The organization regularly monitors the health of local coral reefs and since 2021, has been assisting properties to transition away from harmful synthetic landscaping products as part of its Reef Friendly Landscaping Certification program.
