Senate Bill Enables Governor to Mandate COVID-19 Screening for Travelers to Hawai‘i
HB2502, HD1 SD2 authorizes the state Department of Health to screen, test, and monitor travelers for COVID-19 upon declaration by the Governor that such actions are required. The bill also provides funding to hotels to conduct testing for employees, and establishes a travelers screening special fund utilizing funds from the Transient Accommodations Tax.

7 New COVID-19 Cases Brings Hawai‘i Total to 1030
There are seven new COVID-19 cases reported for Hawaiʻi today–six on the island of Oʻahu and one on Hawaiʻi Island–bringing the statewide count to 1,030 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. To date, 781 people (77.2%) have recovered including 115 (94.2%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 230 active cases in the state, including seven on Maui.

Wildland Fire Training on Mahi Pono Parcel on July 7
The Maui Fire Department will conduct a single day live fire wildland training exercise on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The training will take place on a parcel of Mahi Pono land just south of Haleakalā Highway and west of Keahua Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This is an extension of the training conducted last month.
Kahului Airport’s Runway 2-20 to Temporarily Close for Taxiway Construction
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation advises Maui residents of the closure of Runway 2-20 for a taxiway reconstruction project scheduled to take place at the Kahului Airport on weekends from July 4 to August 1.
25 New COVID-19 Cases Brings Hawai‘i Total to 1023
There are 25 new COVID-19 case reported for Hawaiʻi today–all on the island of Oʻahu–bringing the statewide count to 1,023 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. As a result of updated testing, one case was removed from the Oʻahu count, according to the state Department of Health.
24 New COVID-19 Cases Brings Hawai‘i Total to 999
There are 24 new COVID-19 case reported for Hawaiʻi today–19 on the island of Oʻahu, two each on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi and Kauaʻi, and one on Maui–bringing the statewide count to 999 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. To date, 756 people (77.1%) have recovered including 115 (95%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 224 active cases in the state, including seven on Maui.

Catholic Charities Hawai’i earlier this week welcomed the first tenants of its new Kahului Lani senior affordable housing complex on Maui. The first phase of the 165-unit senior affordable rental complex is located along Kane Street across from the Kahului Foodland.

Two 4+ Magnitude Earthquake at Kīlauea This Week Are Likely Aftershocks from May 2018 Quake
Two 4+ magnitude earthquakes at Kīlauea this week are confident with a slip along the south flank fault and were likely aftershocks of a large 6.9 earthquake in May of 2018. Kīlauea’s south flank has been the site of 20 earthquakes of magnitude-4.0 or greater during the past 20 years.
