HB2502, HD1 SD2 authorizes the state Department of Health to screen, test, and monitor travelers for COVID-19 upon declaration by the Governor that such actions are required. The bill also provides funding to hotels to conduct testing for employees, and establishes a travelers screening special fund utilizing funds from the Transient Accommodations Tax.

Governor David Ige today outlines how COVID-19 has impacted the state’s finances.  Joining him are Lieutenant Governor Josh Green with an update on the state’s healthcare system capacity and Dr. Bruce Anderson from the state Department of Health with an update on the latest case numbers.

There are seven new COVID-19 cases reported for Hawaiʻi today–six on the island of Oʻahu and one on Hawaiʻi Island–bringing the statewide count to 1,030 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic.   To date, 781 people (77.2%) have recovered including 115 (94.2%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 230 active cases in the state, including seven on Maui.

The Maui Police Department made 10 arrests Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII), and two arrests for Habitually Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant.

Maui Fire Department personnel responded to three separate fires on Maui on Sunday, July 5, 2020, including one that caused $20,000 and displaced one person in Kanaio.

Now it its fourth month, the Farm Produce Purchase Program is a food purchase and distribution program available to Maui farms/farmers that sold an average of $2,500 per month produce prior to March 2020.

The Maui Fire Department will conduct a single day live fire wildland training exercise on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The training will take place on a parcel of Mahi Pono land just south of Haleakalā Highway and west of Keahua Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This is an extension of the training conducted last month.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation advises Maui residents of the closure of Runway 2-20 for a taxiway reconstruction project scheduled to take place at the Kahului Airport on weekends from July 4 to August 1.

There are 25 new COVID-19 case reported for Hawaiʻi today–all on the island of Oʻahu–bringing the statewide count to 1,023 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic.  As a result of updated testing, one case was removed from the Oʻahu count, according to the state Department of Health. 

There are 24 new COVID-19 case reported for Hawaiʻi today–19 on the island of Oʻahu, two each on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi and Kauaʻi, and one on Maui–bringing the statewide count to 999 cases in Hawaiʻi over the course of the pandemic. To date, 756 people (77.1%) have recovered including 115 (95%) recovery in Maui County. There are currently 224 active cases in the state, including seven on Maui.

Catholic Charities Hawai’i earlier this week welcomed the first tenants of its new Kahului Lani senior affordable housing complex on Maui. The first phase of the 165-unit senior affordable rental complex is located along Kane Street across from the Kahului Foodland.

Imua Family Services, Maui’s early childhood development agency, announced plans to purchase the Yokouchi Estate in Wailuku to create a community space for outdoor, nature based learning for island keiki.

Two 4+ magnitude earthquakes at Kīlauea this week are confident with a slip along the south flank fault and were likely aftershocks of a large 6.9 earthquake in May of 2018. Kīlauea’s south flank has been the site of 20 earthquakes of magnitude-4.0 or greater during the past 20 years.

Maui police are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident at Mile 11.5 near Papalaua Wayside Beach Park. Due to a slippery substance on the road, traffic is contraflow until further notice.
