Maui United Way Announces $75K in Emergency Safety Net Grants

Launched with $75,000, the safety net funding will respond to the following areas impacting residents of Maui County: food, rental and utility assistance, education and medical. These funds will be offered in individual grants to non-profits supporting these specific areas within Maui County.

Hawaiian Airlines Focuses on Critical Flights, Cargo Services

Guests traveling on Hawaiian’s Neighbor Island network will continue to have flight options throughout the day with 41 daily roundtrip flights scheduled for April. From Honolulu there will be 38 daily flights, including 13 to Maui, eight to Kona, seven to Kaua‘i, six to Hilo, and two each to Lāna‘i and Moloka‘i. From Maui there will be one roundtrip each to Hilo, Kaua‘i and Kona in addition to Honolulu service.

Hawaii Visitor Arrivals Down 87% to 4,131 on Tuesday from 32,330 on the Same Day in 2019

The percentage drop of arriving passengers is down 87 percent from the same period last year (4,131 arriving passengers as of 3-24-20 compared to 32,330 on the same day in 2019).

Mayor’s FY 2020-2021 Budget Includes $10 M to Combat COVID-19

The Victorino administration has already requested a Fiscal Year 2020 budget amendment for an appropriation of $4 million from the Emergency Fund and $2 million for the HELP program. The HELP program will help residents meet their basic financial needs.

Many Maui Hotels Temporarily Suspend Operations

The list of hotels around Maui and across the state are rolling out plans to address the reduced visitor load and mass cancellations as mandatory quarantines for arriving travelers, and newly implemented stay-at-home orders go into effect.  The newly announced temporary suspension of operations are a result of actions being taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 and avoid overburdening limited medical resources. 

Grand Wailea Resort Temporarily Suspends Operations

Grand Wailea is preparing care packages for employees and the community, including Feed My Sheep and the Maui Food Bank, using the hotel’s perishable food stock. The hotel’s current inventory of toilet paper is being shared with team members.

Senator English Thanks Bank of Hawai‘i for Keeping Hāna Branch Open

Senator J. Kalani English (Hāna, East and Upcountry Maui, Moloka‘i, Lāna‘i and Kaho‘olawe) expressed his thanks to Bank of Hawai‘i for keeping the Hāna branch in operation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

35 American Savings Bank Branches Remain Open

On Maui, the Kehalani Foodland branch is currently closed. The Wailuku brach on North Market Street will closed on March 28, 2020, until further notice.

Imua Family Services Continues Services Online

In order to minimize exposure risk and to support social distancing, Imua Family Services is transitioning its therapeutic early intervention services throughout Maui County from in-person home visitation to telepractice or phone conferencing.  This went into effect on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Travaasa Hāna in East Maui Temporarily Suspends Operations Starting March 26

“After a long and careful review of various options, it’s with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close temporarily and help keep our tight-knit community safe,” said Marni Aina, resident manager at Travaasa Hāna. “We feel it is our responsibility to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and hope that the uncertainty passes soon so we may be able to welcome guests back to our beloved Hāna town.”

Five O’ahu branches will be closed beginning March 30, until further notice. The Pu’unēnē Shopping Center branch will remain open during normal business hours.

Hawaiian Airlines Begins Suspending Long Haul Flights to and From Hawai‘i, Effective Thursday

Hawaiian Airlines website is now posting an advisory that it will begin suspending long-haul flights to and from Hawaiʻi, effective Thursday, March 26, 2020. The company website states that Hawaiian Airlines will keep a network that will continue to provide vital connectivity for guests traveling “within the state.”
