HDOT Outlines Actions to Protect Seabirds Following Threat of Lawsuit
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation today outlined a list of actions it has taken recently to protect endangered seabirds at harbors and airports. The information is being shared after receipt of a letter on June 30, in which two conservation groups provided formal notice of their intent to sue the state if it fails to take immediate steps to prevent bright lighting at state-operated airports and harbors on Maui and Lāna‘i.
More EVs could reduce CO2 emissions by 93% in less than 30 years
In 2020, average passenger EVs were found to consume the equivalent of 66 gallons of gasoline, seven times less fossil fuel than their gasoline-powered counterparts, which used 455 gallons. Average EVs also cut emissions in half, two metric tons of CO2 versus four metric tons of CO2.

Maui Humane Society kicked off BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelter’s adoption event yesterday, which runs through July 10. “We adopted out 2 dogs, 5 kittens and a guinea pig today, a great start! Exemptions Extended Today to Include Fully Vaccinated Mainland Arrivals in Hawaiʻi
The state expands its vaccine exemption program today to include travelers from mainland states and US territories. Travelers that qualify, should upload their vaccine documentation on the Safe Travels Hawaiʻi website before traveling; and bring a hard copy of their vaccination documentation to show screeners at the gate.
