Proposals sought for coconut rhinoceros beetles management in green waste

The Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture is seeking proposals from nonprofit organizations to eliminate coconut rhinoceros beetles on O‘ahu, and another to support green waste management on Maui, Moloka‘i, Hawai‘i island, Kaua‘i and O‘ahu.

New Maui sites offered for Christmas tree recycling drop-offs

Two new temporary sites, along with several established green waste locations, are set up around Maui County this year for residents to drop off Christmas trees for recycling, according to an announcement by the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management Division of Environmental Protection and Sustainability.

The recent finding of a dead coconut rhinoceros beetle on Maui has prompted calls for vigilance among contractors and landowners to prevent the accidental spread of invasive species. This appeal comes at a time when the urgent need to address impacts from the Maui fires may increase the introduction of infested materials from off island.

County of Maui Christmas tree recycling available

The County of Maui, Department of Environmental Management announced a list of options for Christmas tree drop-off and recycling. The County has opened two temporary Christmas tree drop-off sites in Kīhei and Makawao; in addition to the ongoing green waste drop off services throughout Maui County.
