Hāna metals and electronics recycling event to be held Dec. 6 and 7
East Maui residents can drop off appliances, automobile batteries, tires, propane tanks, scrap metal and electronics during a Hāna metals and electronics recycling event on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, the County of Maui Environmental Protection & Sustainability Division announced.

East Maui residents can drop off scrap metal, appliances, propane tanks, tires and auto batteries for recycling on Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at the Hāna Recycling Center.
Firefighters battle blaze at Hammerhead Metals in Central Maui
Update: 6:57 a.m., April 21, 2024: The cause of a rubbish fire at the Central Maui Baseyard on Saturday is under investigation. The fire burned a pile of recyclable material starting at 10:36 a.m. on April 20, 2024. Maui fire crews accessed the area off of the Maui Veterans Highway and were able to extinguish the blaze by 11:50 p.m.
Hammerhead Metals Recycling closed through April 22; processing vehicles from Lahaina Wildfire Disaster Area continues
Hammerhead management has stated, “Due to exigent circumstances, including but not limited to the wildfires of Lahaina, we have decided to close our yard for one week,” the company said in announcing the closure that began Tuesday, April 16. “This closure will allow us to prioritize the removal of more than 3,600 tons of metal that we currently have on property. Our decision does not come lightly; the safety of our staff, vendors, and customers are our number one priority.” The facility will reopen and resume accepting materials at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23.
Hāna metals recycling event set for March 8 and 9
A quarterly metals recycling collection event in Hāna will be held on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, announced the Department of Environmental Management.
