Maui County’s voters can expect to receive their General Election ballot packages starting Oct. 18.

A 23-year-old Maui man was rescued after becoming stranded at the bottom of a 25-30 foot cliff in Nāhiku on Saturday night. The mountain rescue incident was reported at 7:34 p.m. on Sept. 28, along the Hāna Highway in East Maui.

A Nahiku home was destroyed by fire overnight, when the homeowner left the oven on and unattended, officials said. The fire was first reported at 11:46 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

The 28-year-old man from Miami, Florida, was about three-fourths of a mile above the Kīpahulu Park Ranger Station when the incident occurred at around 1:20 p.m., according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

The funds include $2 million for improvements to the Hana Highway between Uakea Road and Keawa Place that was damaged in the March 2012 storm.
