Lahaina Restoration Foundation receives $30K donation to support rebuild
The Lahaina Restoration Foundation has received a $30,000 donation from Bishop Clark Zenkyu Watanabe of the Koyasan Shingon Mission of Hawaiʻi and Rev. Takayuki Meguro of the Lahaina Shingon Mission to aid in the restoration of Lahaina’s historic sites damaged by the August 2023 wildfires, per an announcement Friday.

Recovery efforts continue on Maui where wildfires decimated the Historic Lahaina Town in West Maui, leaving a path of destruction spanning nearly 3.5 square miles. The fires were driven by hurricane force winds with 80 mph gusts as system Dora passed well south of the Hawaiian Islands on Tuesday, Aug. 8. The largest fires in Kula and Lahaina are still active burn areas where firefighting efforts continue. The wildfire is described as the nation’s deadliest in a 100 years.

Candle Lit Tours Return to Baldwin Home Museum
Take a step back into Lahaina’s past as Candle Lit Tours return to the Baldwin Home Museum on Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m., alongside a new, free Historic photography exhibit. The tours and exhibits will be held weekly in conjunction with Friday Night is Art Night.
Six Businesses Reopen on Front Street in Lahaina on Same Day as Tourism’s Return
“Tabora Gallery Lahaina is a brand new business and we are busting at the seams to get going. We’ve been waiting to open the doors and we finally were able to do it,” said Anne Wood. Other Front Street stores that opened on Thursday included: CocoNēnē, West Maui Gifts, Maui Jewelers, Billabong and Honolula Surf.
Candle Lit Tours Return to the Baldwin Home Museum
Lahaina Restoration Foundation announced the return of of their candle lit tours of the Baldwin Home Museum beginning Friday, Sept. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. The home tour will return alongside a new exhibit featuring historic photographs of sports teams from the Pioneer Mill era.
