Modular home transport continues for wildfire survivors

Hauling will take place nightly at 9 p.m., from Wednesday, March 12 through Friday, March 14. The transport will involve trucks in a caravan that will move the homes from the staging area near the Kahului small boat ramp along Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) to Lahaina.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has notified highway users of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire survivors are transported from Kahului to the state’s Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina.

Night lane closures on Kaʻahumanu Avenue for paving work

Motorists are advised that eastbound and westbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Avenue (Route 32) between Kāne Street and Lono Avenue will be closed for paving work associated with the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, February. 19 to 5:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20.

Short lane closures to check Maui pavement quality, Nov. 25-27 and Dec. 2-5

Motorists on Maui are advised of potential traffic delays beginning Monday, Nov. 25, as crews check pavement quality on 13 state highways on the island. The data will allow HDOT to be proactive in repairing roads before they show signs of distress.

Motorists are advised of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire survivors are transported from Kahului to the state’s Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina on Friday and Saturday night. The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation reports that hauling will take place nightly on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 beginning at 9 p.m. and is expected to end at 11:59 p.m.

Daytime closures on Kaʻahumanu Ave. for waterline work on Maui Palms Hampton Inn project

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises highway users that eastbound and westbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Ave. (Route 32) between Kāne Street and Lono Ave. will be impacted by work for the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from Tuesday, Sept. 3 to Friday, Sept. 6.   

Waterline work to close portions of Kaʻahumanu Ave., Aug. 28-30

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises motorists that eastbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Ave. (Route 32) between Kāne Street and Lono Ave. will be impacted by work for the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from Wednesday, Aug. 28 to Friday, Aug. 30.  More night and day closures for the work is expected in the next couple of weeks.

Traffic signal at Ka‘ahumanu Avenue and Maui Lani Parkway will be out Monday

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has advised motorists that crews will be performing electrical maintenance work on the traffic signal at the intersection of Ka‘ahumanu Avenue and Maui Lani Parkway fronting Baldwin High School on Monday.

Kaʻahumanu Ave. closure for Saturday morning’s Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pā’ū Parade

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises highway users of closures and delays on Kaʻahumanu Ave. (Route 32) and adjacent streets Saturday morning, June 15, for the Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pā’ū Parade. Kaʻahumanu Ave. will be closed in both directions between Lunalilo Street and Kahului Beach Road (Route 3400) from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The parade begins at 9:45 a.m. at Baldwin High School and ends at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.

2024 Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pā‘ū Parade calling for entries

The 2024 Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pā‘ū Parade and Ho‘olaule‘a is set for Saturday, June 15, 2024. Due to the Lahaina fires, the day-long events will be relocated to Central Maui, featuring a parade route along Ka‘ahumanu Avenue and a ho‘olaule‘a at Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center.  This year’s Hawai’i-wide theme is “He Inoa No Kalaninui Kamehameha” – Honor to Kamehameha the Great. The application is accessible online for parade entries to apply, with a deadline of May 24, 2024.

Maui Public Art Corps to hold public blessing and unveiling for Kahului mural on Saturday

Maui Public Art Corps will host a public blessing and unveiling of a large-scale mural on the exterior of Ceramic Tile Plus & Exclusively Yours, at the intersection of Kahului Beach Road and Ka’ahumanu Avenue, facing Harbor Lights and Kahului Harbor, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

Motorists advised to slow down when traveling east on Kaʻahumanu at Lono Ave.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises the traveling public to slow down while traveling east on Ka‘ahumanu Avenue when approaching the Lono Avenue intersection. The pavement at the intersection was damaged by a water main break Saturday night. The road surface is uneven and rough.

Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Monday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day.

The Department of Water Supply reports a water service outage and road closure on Puʻunēnē Ave. scheduled Sunday, Dec. 10 from 7:30 p.m. to Monday, Dec. 11 at 5 a.m. The section of Puʻunēnē Ave. between W. Kaʻahumanu Ave. to E. Kamehameha Ave will be closed in both directions.

EAH Housing to develop 303 affordable housing units as part of Kahului Civic Center

The Hawai‘i Housing Finance and Development Corporation has selected EAH Housing to develop the Kahului Civic Center Mixed-Use Complex. The project is expected to break ground in 2027, with the first phase anticipated to be completed by 2029. The project includes a transit hub, civic center component, and 303 affordable housing units.
