South Kīhei Road — from Wailana Place to Kūlanihākoʻi Street — is anticipated to reopen by the end of this month, following County of Maui repairs and cleanup from a severe winter storm, according to the County Department of Public Works.

Upcountry wildfire survivors discussed the loss of their homes and the unwavering support of community volunteers who came to their aid in the days following disastrous wildfires on Maui. “It only takes a spark to start a fire. Sometimes you just need that one little spark to get a response going, and the community has been the fuel for that,” said volunteer, Kyle Ellison.

The status and future of Upcountry agriculture is the focus of the Kula Community Association’s upcoming meeting. The community meeting begins at 7 p.m. on June 14 at the Kula Community Center.

“Cooking Hawaiian Style,” a locally produced television show, set up its outdoor kitchen at Kula Country Farms and Kaonoulu Ranch on the Valley Isle this week.

Seven of the 11 inductees to the 2019 Paniolo Hall of Fame are tied to cattle ranches in Maui County that include: Haleakalā Ranch, Molokaʻi Ranch, Maui Cattle Company, ʻUlupalakua Ranch, Kaonoulu Ranch and Kaupō Ranch.

Three of Maui’s own ranches, Haleakalā, ʻUlupalakua and Kaonoulu Ranch will participate in a ranch panel to “talk story” and answer questions regarding ranching on Maui.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, with doors opening at 6 p.m. at the Kihei Charter School, located at 41 East Lipoa.
